Byrhtnoth (Byrhtnoþ, also spelled Byrhtnoð, Byrihtnoð, Brihtnoþ, Beorhtnoþ, Beorhtnoð, Baeorhtnoð; an Anglo-Saxon name composed of beorht "bright" and noth "courage") was the leader of the Anglo-Saxon defence force in the Battle of Maldon in 991.
